Is the Sabbath 12 or 24 hours Long?

Joseph F. Dumond

Isa 6:9-12 And He said, Go, and tell this people, You hear indeed, but do not understand; and seeing you see, but do not know. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back, and be healed. Then I said, Lord, how long? And He answered, Until the cities are wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land laid waste, a desolation, and until Jehovah has moved men far away, and the desolation in the midst of the land is great.

Shabbat Shalom to The Royal Family of Yehovah,

Before you get too far into this News letter, I want you to recall that last week we talked about the Equinox and how those who promote it today are teaching you a false doctrine. Even though they are sincere it is still false. Where it came from was one question I did not address. I would like to share with you what my friend Nehemiah Gordon has shared regarding this same subject about Constantine.

At the same time I also want to point out the number of times that the Barley has been ready by March 10 in the past 10 years, which Nehemiah does talk about. And then as your considering the chances of it actually being early this year, I want you all to then once again read the Blood Moon teaching we have on this subject and how we have been warning you of the coming dark moons on Passover and Sukkot in 2016 IF the Barley is ready March 10. You can order the ebook from our store or watch the video here.

“In the Mail Bag”

Each week I receive emails and letters from people who have walked this walk for a long time. But it never ceases to amaze me when new people write in and the understanding switch has been turned on. Reschelle is one of those new and this coming year will be her first full year at keeping all the Holy Days and the Sabbatical year. Please join me in praying for her and all the other new people who will be keeping their first Passover, their first Days of Unleavened Bread, their first wave sheaf day, their first Sabbatical year, and counting of the Omer for the first time. Yehovah bless them for obeying His calling.

Shabbat Shalom Joseph ,

Once again thank you for the extensive research and commitment of time you bring to our family . joseph , I have questions about preparing for the sabbatical year as well as all the feasts . Please let me first say this will be my first entire year to obey and do all Yehovah has called us to do, so with that said , I have read and listened to all of your videos and I am learning to prove all things, but since we are in America and don’t actually have tangible barley , and possibly other countries as well , and the other sacrificial elements , what does it look like in the 21st century for us to do these things to please our Yehovah and get it right. I apologize ,I am not asking to be spoon fed, I just want to be able to prepare and have the correct emblems etc. so with all that said is there material ,book or something you recommend that you can help those of us that are new .
thank you, in him

Shabbat Shalom Joseph ,

Dear Joe and Crew, Thank you. Thank you.

I was getting the Plain Truth for approximately 7 years, then I requested the Bible Correspondence Course. This was in 1985. So when the paperwork was laid out on my kitchen table and I opened the only Bible I had at that time- the Revised Standard Edition. The words literally jumped off the page while reading His word. What a miracle. I cried my eyes out. I wanted to know the truth and learn. Yes, we have all been taught a pack of lies. I was a babe and still want to learn. Satan doesn’t want the world to know the truth, otherwise you wouldn’t get attacked. May God our Father give you all strength and protection to do the work He wants you to do.

The ending of the radio program saddens me also.

Joe you ask questions about God’s word to make people THINK. That’s what teachers do, even when we all were young and at school. Excuse my scribble, but I just had to say my piece, (view) We live in distressing times.

Your Sis in Christ

As I prepared this News Letter I was looking at one I did from a year ago about the Sabbath being a test commandment, and I happened across the following comments. I thought I would share them again with you. Especially when I am about to send out the results of our executive meeting held here two weeks ago. More about that later.

If you did not get your own copy of our four books yet, then I cannot urge you strongly enough to do so ASAP. Consider what the two ladies below are saying and why they are saying these things. It is because the information is backed up by scriptures and they can now see what they did not see before.

I have been sent this note from MICHAEL D BEITER JR who has been reading and studying and teaching from our books in the Federal prison system in the USA. He wrote me to say,

On my 4th round of “2300 days…”!!!!! Man O man you must have had many brain freezes writing this book. Soooooooooooo deep!

We also have videos that you can watch online and share with your family and assemblies about all of our teachings.

The money these products generates goes to pay for the web site, and maintenance of the web site and email list. These proceeds and your donations also go towards the maintenance of the vineyard we have in Israel which is keeping both the Jewish Sabbatical year last year in 2014-2015 and the one we are saying starting Aviv 2016. Two different sections are keeping two different sabbatical years under the same conditions.

Our book and DVD sales also support any speaking engagements we do as well as advertisements and and other ventures we pursue in order to get the Sabbatical and Jubilee message out. The money generated by the sale of our books and DVD’s goes right back into sharing these with other people in other lands and here at home. All of it can be found on our web site for free. You just have to find it yourself.

What is it with people who think it should ALL just be for FREE….

If you want it for FREE, join up to Mr. Dumond’s newsletter. Or go watch his teaching videos for free on Youtube….

But if you want to hold a nicely bound book with a pretty cover in your hand, you have to pay the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker!

Why is it people get so resentful about spending a few dollars on a Christian-type teaching book? They pay happily for Nevil Shute, Nancy Drew or even a Bible…..

………….. printers charge REAL MONEY! lol
Paper is not FREE!!!!

To all the sisters and brothers who stick up for Mr. Dumond, may the One True God of Israel bless you mightily!

I think Mr. Dumond has a tremendous vision from God, to have foreseen this long before there was much evidence. When he started speaking about all this, ISIS had not yet popped it’s ugly little decapitating head. So we have to realize that he was given tremendous INSIGHT from God on this. It was only a year or so ago I was still afraid to share ANYTHING about Muslim antics, because it would have been too much for me to ask anyone to swallow.

If I’d have come across his stuff 10 years ago, I would have binned it in a second, I’m sure…. And for him it would take GUTS!

What about Luke 10:7? If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they give you; for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house. 8 Whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat what is set before you;… And 1 Timothy 5:18 says, Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.
If only publishers, computer graphic artists, paper mulches, presses and sellers, printers and book binders would realize that ALL THIS STUFF SHOULD BE PROVIDED FREE….. hmmmm
Come to think of it, why does the grocery shop not deliver sufficient groceries up to Mr. Dumond’s home too, and the electricity department just let him run everything for free, too? Surely THEY all realize that he is providing books and vast hours of study for free to the public?
The problem is, nobody else comes to the party.
And in fact, you could subscribe to Mr. Dumond’s news letters and watch ALL his presentations FOR FREE on you tube, already. He is already offering it all for free.
Just the BOUND BOOKS, which are beautiful to hold in your hot little hand, come at a cost. And this is jolly near free too, as most of this cost is what it COSTS him.
Actually, I don’t think the money he charges actually covers the cost.
What you probably don’t realize is that this man rents space on exhibitions, pays people to produce huge posters and goes there and hands out books for free to spread the gospel. He does this every chance he gets. He goes to Israel a few times a year to do this too.
Do you think that the few dollars you won’t pay for a bound copy cover this cost?
And he has handed out more free books than have ever been paid for. I am the recipient of one lot, which ACTUALLY COST HIM to have mailed to me. And I assure you, I am a drop in a bucket.
Do you realize that this man substitutes his ministry by digging ditches?
That is how he earns his living, supports his family and pays for the VAST costs of handing out books.
One day in heaven when all is known, people who resent the worker for a paltry $10 or $20 will eat their words. Repent NOW and pray a blessing over this hard working brother.
Bless you too.

I’m not sure you are aware Joseph speaks at length about the content of his books all for free on Youtube. His SightedMoon channel hosts literally hours upon hours of information in its videos. Joseph isn’t holding anything back, nor is he selling his testament as some kind of gift bonanza like, for example, Michael Rood does, I’m sorry to say. I watched Joseph’s videos before I purchased his books, and I purchased them because the videos demonstrated they would be honest and good value. He isn’t a pastor at some mega church with a budget exceeding that of a small country, operating with the ethics of a banana republic’s dictator, so $20 (about £9) is the least I’d expect to pay- that’s less than a decent burger and a bottle of juice for lunch. Give him a break and be supportive of the one voice- at least, the only one I know of- who is trying to help you survive a very real and rapidly approaching stay at a concentration camp, with no return ticket.

These books are the product of a mind-boggling intensity of research. I’m convinced the perception of the need for this message has only been grasped by Joseph, also the ability to make it intelligible to average ‘me.’

One final consideration: If you’ve watched Joseph’s videos at all, he repeatedly invites people in his audience to pay for the book if they can do so, or to not pay if they can’t; but to make darn sure they do take one regardless, and to test it because if he’s right… well… those thousands upon thousands of coffins FEMA have been stockpiling are gonna find occupants in the near future and you need to learn how to avoid being one of those reluctant residents.

Here is another letter I received from a sister who is asking about the Sabbath. This weeks News Letter is going to address this subject of whether or not the Sabbath is 12 or 24 hours long. Yes I know it seems like a silly subject, and yet a number of people are being confused by this misguided teaching.

Dear Brother Joe Dumond:

My name is Betty Seaton from Chandler, Texas. I have been a follower of Yahshua since 1985. I started out in Assembly of God and worked my way through several denominations before ending up in a Messianic Congregation BHS in Dallas, TX. which I attended from 1994 through 1999 then back again in 2009 through 2011. In 2011 God excommunicated me from all fellowship so He could deal with my sin. I was taken outside the camp so to speak, for Him to deal with my sin of adultery. Not what you would think.  But, I had been in a second marriage for 29 years and I had been convicted of this years before but I didn’t obey. That disobedience resulted in 10 years of spiritual death. My first husband was still living and Mark 10:12 was made very real in my life. However, through Gods tender grace and mercy I was set free from my sin. It was a process that took 4 years and finally one week before Pesach 2015 the Yahshua our High Priest pronounced me clean and sent me back to Jerusalem to be Baptized in the Jordan river. This was my fourth trip since this process started. And each time I went it was as though I was being examined plus I was always sent there for Prophetic Intercession. Sorry for the long introduction but I wanted you to understand I also am a seeker of the truth no matter how costly it is.

I have studied intently the 10 lost tribes and that is what brought me to your website just a few months ago. I watched all of the teaching videos and as soon as I’m able I plan to buy the 2300 days of hell and 2016 book. I was blown away by the Sabbatical years being revealed with the corrected year. I grabbed this truth and have held it close.

This is where we are now digging and searching for truth at this very late hour.  Which brings me to this very shocking Truth I have just discovered. I from the very beginning of my walk have recognized Sat as the true Sabbath and when I ended up in a Messianic Congregation I was thrilled to be worshiping on the Sabbath. Never did I question where did this sunset to sunset observance come from. But, just like in  the church we just get use to swallowing whatever our church fathers feed us. Well it was no different in the Jewish Hebrew roots movement all of this tradition of men comes from the rabbinic sages and we swallowed it as well hook, line and sinker. But, because I know you to be a man of the Truth you would give this a serious consideration.  A several weeks back the Holy Spirit started prompting me to reexamine some scriptures I had brushed off and one of them was, Mark 15:42 NAS Joseph of Arimathea ask for the body of Yahshua when evening had already come it was the preparation day before the Sabbath. This started me on an intent study and I ask the Holy Spirit how could this be I have always celebrated Shabbat from sunset to sunset. This discovery was truly eye opening, I always had a hard time with a day starting at evening, that’s not even normal and the whole Bible speaks of a day starting at dawn. Even Yahshua speaks of the 1st hour being at dawn in Matt. 20:1-16 and He speaks of 12 hours in the day Jn. 11:9.  And think about it, we are given the 7th day as a rest from labor you labor during the day. Back then you didn’t labor at night you didn’t need a rest at night you rested then anyway. From my studying of this subject I concluded that the Sabbath begins at dawn to sunset. I was pleased to find this website after I started this study it is A Case For The 12 Hour Sabbath the 12 hour He had many more scriptures on the subject than I did, so if you are interested in checking it out I would love to hear your take on the subject. I know you are a very busy man but acquiring the Truth is Freedom. It amazes me how these things can be right in front of us and we don’t even notice. This was just the same for me as when you revealed the Biblical New year being the Truth Aviv 1 and not Rosh Hashanah and observing the 7th year Sabbatical year. Truth right under our noses but we get caught up in following the traditions of men. I hated admitting Jonathon Kahn missed the mark calling the Shemitah year 2015 after the Civil year. Now I’m praying continually Lord what else is there that I have swallowed that is not of you. In the end it will matter if we are obeying the commandments of God and not the commandments of men. Just as you have said, will we show up and worship His Feast on the right day and the correct hour or will we be as those following the traditions of men and be the blind leading the blind.

Blessings to you dear brother,
Hope to hear from you

“The Sabbath is a Test. How Do We Keep it Holy”

The Sabbath is a test. How do we keep it Holy?

In preparing for this weeks article, I went back to this article about how the Sabbath is a test. If we fail to keep it Holy We fail the test. It is by the Sabbath that Yehovah tests us to see if we will obey or not. Will we cut corners or make excuses as to why we cannot or will not keep it Holy.

Not only is the weekly Seventh Day Sabbath from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday a test we must pass each week, but we are also given annual test each year in the Holy Days of Lev 23 that we must keep. And then there is the Sabbatical year every 7th year that is also a test.

Satan is sent to change times and laws. The Sabbath is part of the law and has to do with time. It is this very thing that Satan wants to change. And just as he did with Eve in the garden, Satan comes as an angel of light, a shinning one to get some of us to change from the truth to the lie. Once we have accepted the lie as truth then his job is done. We have moved away from Yehovah and failed his Sabbath test.

The keeping the Sabbath at the proper time, according to the proper calendar is very important to understand. Those who fail to understand this are led away by Satan to worship on days Yehovah never sanctioned. This is why each year we go over these things and explain them to you so you can understand and take notes and study these things out.

Take the time to read the article about the Sabbath test, especially if you are new to this walk.

Keep in mind, Satan quoted the scriptures to Yehshua, but on their own he might have been correct. Yehshua quoted other scriptures that corrected misunderstanding and did not fall into the same fate Eve did of discussing it. Using a select few scriptures can give you the false teaching put forward by some. By using all of the scriptures you will come to the truth. And I have seen this time and time again when it comes to Yehovah’s appointed times. So be careful.

24 Hour Sabbath Argument

The Church of God International has a very good article on this very subject and we are going to use it.

Lately a relatively new argument has emerged and become accepted by a very small portion of those professing Christianity. That argument being, that with only a few exceptions, the sabbath day starts at sunrise and ends at sunset. This then being an approximately 12 hour period.
At first this argument seems kind of odd and perhaps self serving, but is it? Or, as these people claim, have we been deceived for millennia into believing a false concept not truly found in the bible. In other words, is a 24 hour sabbath day unfounded?
Being a bit of a skeptic and a little short on patience for some of these controversies I’ve seen emerge as of late, I can honestly say I’ve always considered these people off by half a bubble. But are they really? I was challenged to really look into the question and after doing so, was, to say the least, interested in their position.

Genesis 1:5 says… “God called the ‘light’ Day….” The light day. The word Day here, used to describe ‘light’ coming from the Hebrew word ‘yom’ . Now when we turn to the forth commandment we read in Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

God could have just said… “Remember the sabbath, to keep it holy. But He didn’t. He said, “Remember the sabbath DAY to keep it holy. The word ‘day’ being that exact same Hebrew word yom used to describe the ‘light’ portion of a 24 hour period.

Exodus 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exodus 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

So, their position becomes quite plain, that the sabbath is really only the daylight portion of the 24 hour day.

Ah, but… as so many others quickly point out, what about Leviticus 23:32?

Leviticus 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Notice now, it doesn’t say sabbath DAY, now it just says ‘sabbath’. And the word ‘day’ is added to the text after the word ninth, so the claim is that this here is an exception to the general 12 hour rule that includes all the other ‘sabbaths’, weekly and annual alike.

There is one other exception with the Passover. Here they recognize that Christ died on the preparation day and the sabbath was about to start. The Jews wanted the bodies removed and buried before the sun set. Why? Well a body wasn’t to be buried on the sabbath, but if the sabbath didn’t start until sunrise, what was their hurry? Well, the argument presented is that the sabbath the Jews were referring to was the ‘Passover’, and that the ‘Passover’ started at sunset and ended at sunrise and was a special 12 hour sabbath that occurred at night. After all, didn’t the death angel pass over at night? Then, at sunrise we have the first DAY of Unleavened Bread beginning. And the feast continues until the last DAY of Unleavened Bread.
Another point they make comes from Ecclesiastes 2:13

Ecclesiastes 2:13 Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.

And since the sabbath is holy, why would it be associated with darkness and the connotations associated with that – like ‘folly’ in this verse. Or evil in this verse.

Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

There are numerous others… hundreds of others.

1 Thesalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.Christ himself said in John 11…

John 11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

The word ‘day’ occurs something like 1500+ times in the bible.
Generally it comes from the Hebrew word ‘yom’. And if you took the time you can generally read the word ‘day’, with the meaning of ‘daylight’, into almost every passage and force it to make some sort of sense. But that is not how we should be studying our bibles. If a word has more than one meaning, we need to be careful about how it is interpreted so that false arguments don’t take hold and corrupt our understanding of God’s word. Now let me stop and say that sentence one more time and please pay close attention to what I’m saying….

“If a word has more than one meaning, we need to be careful about how it is interpreted so that false arguments don’t take hold, and corrupt our understanding of God’s word.”

Now having said that, what side of the argument am I on? Both sides of the argument use the same statement to further their point of view. Fortunately, only one side is right. So let’s go through the bible, starting right back again in Gen. 1 and see if some of these arguments really stand the test of scrutiny and logic.

Genesis 1: The Creation

God created the heavens and the earth in 6 DAYS. Did He only create during the daylight? Did he restrict his work to daylight hours? No, he didn’t. Obviously not as verse 3 takes place initially in darkness.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Genesis 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

So now we come to our next word problem. The Hebrew word for ‘evening’ is ‘ereb’ which can mean evening, dusk or night. The Hebrew word for ‘morning’ is ‘boqer’ which can mean morning, sunrise, or daytime. So to find the right context we simply have to read the verse and plug in each meaning. In this case, if it is meant as translated, then a day would start at evening and end at morning. What we call the 12 hour night portion of a 24 hour day. If this verse was more accurately translated night and day then we would see a 24 hour period emerging. The ‘day’ starting with approximately 12 hours of night-time and ending with approximately 12 hours of daylight. Coincidentally, the first ‘day’ of creation started with darkness and ended with light.

Here’s a quote from one of the pro 12 hour articles…
Just as God tells us in Genesis 1:5 when He calls the LIGHT “DAY”. The very next thing that God says in Genesis 1:5 is, “. . . and the DARKNESS he called NIGHT. . .” Please notice that God does not call the DARKNESS DAY as man does. He simply calls the DARKNESS NIGHT. One reason is because day and night in scripture are two completely different seasons. They are not the same:
Well let’s see if that’s true.

Let’s move ahead to Exodus 12.

Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

So here God is specific, He calls the dark period ‘night’. It is a quote from God. Let’s look at another one.

Num 3:13 Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be: I am the LORD. ( Also ch 8:17 )

Num 8:17 For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself.

So the firstborn are killed at night, yet God says he smote them “on that day… ”. Same Hebrew word ‘yom’. So does God refer to a night and a day under the same all inclusive word, DAY, like we do?
Yes, He does !

Numbers 9:2 Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season.
Numbers 9:3 In the fourteenth day ( yom ) of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.

The Passover rites and ceremonies should really lead right into the first day of Unleavened Bread. The Passover is not a ‘sabbath’, it is a ‘ceremony’. Christ had to be removed from the cross so as not to desecrate the ‘sabbath’, The First Day of Unleavened Bread, which the Jews believed started at sunset. And did Jesus ever correct them? Actually, Christ corrected the Pharisees over and over. He called them hypocrites and whitened sepulchers. He gave all sorts of examples of how to really keep the sabbath holy, what was and wasn’t acceptable to do on the sabbath, and yet NEVER bothered to correct them on keeping a 24 hour sabbath. Why? Everything else that they did to excess he seemed to be fond of pointing out. But not a “double long sabbath”. Why?
The Passover, being a “12 hour nightly sabbath” as they claim, is not found anywhere in the bible or in any Jewish literature. This here is a case of trying to make scripture fit an idea, instead of reading scripture as it was meant to be read.
But I’ve jumped ahead, let’s get back to the old testament.

Exodus 12:15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

Now certainly no one reads this and thinks that we are only not suppose to eat leavening during the day. Each night we then meet at Tim’s to enjoy a donut (because the leavening can’t be in our homes). Obviously this is 7 periods of 24 hours. The first period being a holy ‘day’, and the last period being a holy ‘day’. A 24 hour period.

Let’s go to the 4th Commandment again. Exodus 20…

Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exodus 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

This too is part of the command. Get your work done in six days.
Can I work a night shift? Of course, the time period is 6, 24 hour days. To read this as a commandment to only work during the daylight would be absurd.

Exodus 20:10 But the seventh day…
(Now all of a sudden it’s only the daylight portion)
is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days…
( Now we’ve already shown that God actually worked in the dark part of the day too, so here a day is back to 24 hours. Confusing isn’t it? )
the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day:
( oops, back to the 12 hours of light.)
wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The more you look, the harder it is to believe that anyone would believe this. Yet human determination should not be underestimated. Now at this point, I personally am looking for motive. But lets continue.

Leviticus 11…

Leviticus 11:24 And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcass of them shall be unclean until the even.

Why evening? Because that was the start of a new ‘day’. It was actually quite symbolic.

Next comes Leviticus 23:32 I hate to even go there as it seems all too obvious. But they have an argument.

Leviticus 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

This, they say is not a Sabbath ‘Day’. It is an annual Sabbath, which, like a seventh year in farming, the fallow year, which is called a Sabbath, can encompass more than 1 day. It’s an exception.
Whatever. Actually they believe Atonement fell over parts of 2 24 hour periods. Two days. They hate to say days because that means ‘ only the light portion of the “season” ’.
If you read it plainly, it says the Atonement sabbath goes from evening to evening. Very simple. Very concise.

In 2 Samuel 13 we read how Absalom had Amnon, David’s son, killed.

2 Samuel 13:37 ….And David mourned for his son every day.

Oh he partied at night. Ate his fill too. But during the day…. it was very sad. Same word that is interpreted ‘the light portion of the day’ by some. Again, David fasted for 7 days before his first child with Bathsheba died. He did NOT EAT AT NIGHT !

It was seven full days. They couldn’t get him off the dirt floor! Day does not only mean daylight! That is something you have to read into so many passages to come up with this distorted concept.

Joshua 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
Joshua 10:14 And there was no day like that before it or after it…

So… the sun never set for a whole day. Duh… if day only means the daylight portion then the sun ALWAYS never sets for a whole day! What would be so special about this ‘day’? Nothing! The whole thing makes me shake my head. But there’s more.

Now in Nehemiah’s time the Jews were trying to get back to keeping the sabbath and some insisted on selling their wares during that day.

Nehemiah 13:19 And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.

So as the sun started to set, he closed the gates and kept them that way until when? Well both sides would agree, sunset the next day! From sunset to sunset.

So let’s go to Matthew 12:40

Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Here we agree with the pro 12 hour sabbath keepers, that the word ‘day’ used in this context would mean ‘daylight’. Three daylight periods of 12 hours and three nighttime periods of 12 hours. Christ himself gave them this sign.

When exactly did Christ die?

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour …

When is the ninth hour?

Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Matthew 27:47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
Matthew 27:48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
Matthew 27:49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

He died right around 3pm. Pretty much the same time as the Passover lambs were starting to be slain.

When did Christ rise? Let’s see…

Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

So the sabbath was over and it’s beginning to get light. It was

Mark 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

‘Very early’,… ‘at the rising of the sun’. Was it light out yet? Was it ‘daytime’? We know it was the first ‘something’ of the week. Actually here and in the following two verses you see the word ‘day’ italicized because it has been added by the translators. Why? Because they all felt this wording more accurately reflected the implications in the original texts. After all in Hebrew and Greek the word ‘day’ can mean both the 12 hour daylight portion or the whole 24 hour day.

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luke 24:2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
Luke 24:3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

First day of the week, very early in the morning… light or dark?

John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

Why was the stone rolled away? Because Christ was in the sepulcher Wed. night, Thursday day, Thurs. night, Friday day, Friday night ( that’s three nights now ) and Saturday day ( three full ‘days’ ). I’m sure he rose sometime the next night, probably shortly after sunset, but apparently scholars would have you believe, on the first DAY of the week.

Zechariah 14… Here we read of Christ’s return.

Zechariah 14:6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
Zechariah 14:7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
Zechariah 14:8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
Zechariah 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

Verse 7 … one DAY. Of course it says day because the end of the verse says ‘at evening time it shall be light.’ And day = light. But right after the first ‘day’ in verse 7, it continues on to say ‘not day’. In other words ‘not just the daytime portion of the day’. In that day.
Still translated from the Hebrew word ‘yom’. Both times. Two meanings, same word. Put it in context and it’s not a big mystery.

The problem lies in this desire some have, to attain some ‘special’ knowledge. Some special revelation that will make us special too. Why? Because we see it and others don’t.
When you study the bible try to let the scripture interpret itself as often as possible. Are there difficult passages to understand? Certainly. Are we going to need each other, reference books and newer translations to sometimes get to the bottom of things? Absolutely. But for goodness sake, don’t try to change the meaning of basic words to further a distorted cause. Just like in Hebrew, there are many English words that have numerous meanings. Just put them in context.
