Determining the possible day of Passover having not seen the moon since November

Joseph F. Dumond

Isa 6:9-12 And He said, Go, and tell this people, You hear indeed, but do not understand; and seeing you see, but do not know. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back, and be healed. Then I said, Lord, how long? And He answered, Until the cities are wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land laid waste, a desolation, and until Jehovah has moved men far away, and the desolation in the midst of the land is great.

New Moon Report

November 2006

Ninth Biblical Month

I have been doing some thinking. Please go over my notes and see if you arrive at the same conclusions as I have.
Karaite Korner Newsletter #283

On Wednesday November 22, 2006 the new moon was sighted from Israel. The moon was first sighted from Ashdod by Magdi Shamuel at 16:40 and from Jerusalem by Roy Hoffman at 16:48.

New Moon Report
December 2006

Tenth Biblical Month

On Thursday December 21, 2006 observers across Israel looked for the moon but it was not sighted. All those reporting in so far reported heavy cloud coverage. However, visibility would not have been certain even under ideal weather conditions. Unless further observers report in that the moon was sighted from Israel (unlikely at this point but possible) we will observe New Moon day on Friday night Dec 22, 2006.

New Moon Report
January 2007

Eleventh Biblical Month

On Saturday January 20, 2007 the moon was not sighted from Israel. Observers across Israel reported heavy clouds and rain. With 2.85% illumination and 88 minutes lagtime visibility would have been certain had there not been clouds. Therefore, for those who observe based on “potential visibility” the new month begins this evening (Saturday evening).

Moon Not Seen, Heavy Clouds

On Sunday February 18, 2007 observers across Israel searched for the new moon but it was not sighted. Heavy cloud coverage was reported across the Land.

Having read and followed each of these reports it is now my conclusion that if, and I say IF the new moon is not sighted on March 20 or 21 that the new moon day will be as follows.

Because we last saw the moon on Nov. 22 and have not seen it since to begin the month that we must by the very rules of the sighted moon count 30 days for each month. Starting with the ninth month. Nov. 23 is day one starting the evening before. The 30th day would be Dec. 22 starting the night before. There for because no moon was seen on the 21st as reported then we must continue to count to 30, thus making Dec. 23 at sunset of the 22nd, Day 1 of the eleventh month.

Again in Jan. the moon was not seen. Adding the 30 day by default rule now brings us to Jan 21 starting the night before as the 30th day. Jan. 22 is now day 1.
Then again the moon was not seen in Israel on the 18th as expected and the 30 day rule must apply. This will take us to Feb 20th the night before as the 30th day. Feb 21st the night before would be day one.

If the New Sighted Moon is not seen on the evening of the 19, (not likely) or the 20 as predicted, then the the 30th day of the month will be on the evening of the 21st and 22 day. Making the First of the New Year to begin on the 22nd at evening and the 23rd day.

Passover would then be on the 5th and the First Day of Unleavened Bread to be on the 6th with the last day on the 12th.
This is of course assuming the Barley is Aviv.

Please tell me if I have this right. It looks like we are really going to be tested this year as to whether or not we obey by faith or by our own devises.

Shalom
