New Moon

New Moon is expected to be sighted Friday evening. I hope all of you will go out and look for it. It is only when you go out and sight the moon that you begin to understand the meaning of the expression, that “No one knows the day or the hour.” This becomes extremely important when we begin the 7th month and the 1st day of the seventh month is the Feast of Trumpets. We explained this in a News Letter about the Feast of Trumpets two weeks ago.

The Sabbath

Last week I wrote you a brief note about keeping the Sabbath in unusual circumstances. Especially with your family who are not walking out this walk. It is challenging. One brother wrote me to say;

I hadn’t seen as much pestilence as I had expected to. But – here we go. This same plague manifested a little while ago in the the muslim worship center as I remember it. Now we are beginning to see the same in the USA. For our sake He is giving us time to see.

Thank you – While I have kept the weekly shabbat for many years now, your newsletter was for me this week brother. Thank you for the encouragement and reassurance to me and for my house. If you only knew the timing.

I have not finished your book 2300 Days, as I had hoped. Indeed, I am almost at the halfway point. But it continues to be a daily habit to study the positions you have forwarded and to make progress in the book.

Father has not shown me anyone from Iran yet, but I will continue in daily prayer towards this end as promised. I have many reading the Riddle book now and hope to be shown a team from among them. Some already keep the weekly shabbat and/or annual high holy days.

Praying for your encouragement and for your family members to see, hear, and understand, along with many of my own. I could feel the pain when you were sharing with me about those you love that could not see yet. (btw – I wish I had listened to your story better. Let me know if you ever are lead to share it with me again. I promised to try and remain silent this time – apparently even a fool can seem wise when employing this strategy.)

Is it the 5th Month or the Sixth Month?

This past week I also received the following email.

If the Nation of Israel and those in Jerusalem keep the Biblical Feasts one month latter then you, what do you do when you have Christian Zionist from all the Nations come to Jerusalem and keep Succot – Tabernacles in your congregations, also the Jerusalem March were that day the streets in the center of Jerusalem are closed and they are waving there different Nation flags as they walk through King George Street and the Israelis wave and shout with joy on the side streets.

One can’t keep Succot another month by  himself and your congregation keeps this feast as well as the nation welcomes these tourists from the the nations, your work firm the people you work for gives you that week off work,  Unless you keep Succot – Tabernacles Twice?  Also your family’s eats and sleeps  outside in there Tabernacles that  whole week.

The question is about keeping the Feast in Israel with the nation of Israel keeping it one month later than us. This presents great problems for those in Israel trying to obey. It is against the law I think to put up a Booth other than at Sukkot according to their dating system. What do you do?

The real question here is whether or not you believe the barley begins the year or not. And then whether the crescent moon begins the month or the conjunction moon does. You must prove this beyond all doubt or else when a situation like this comes along you get anxious as to go with what you think is right or you go with the majority as in Judah.

In past years I kept the Holy Days on their respective days in Jerusalem and did not do tours other than short walking ones around our place of residence. Judah did not know and I did not flaunt it in front of them. No there were no Succas to eat in or sleep in. One year we made our own on the balcony.

But you must decide which methodology you are going to follow and then prove it so all doubts are gone and then stick to it no matter what tests come your way. We are now in the 40 days of testing and you all know the Sabbath and Holy Days are a test from Yehovah so He can find out if we are going to follow him or follow men. Each of us gets to choose. And I know it is not always easy. But you must prove it and then it becomes easy because you then know.

So is this the 5th month or the 6th month for you?

Fall Feast Dates 2019

Are you aware that the Fall Feasts are just over one month away? Have you made your plans for the Feasts?

Depending on whether or not the moon is sighted Saturday August 31, 2019 the following will be the Fall Dates for each of the Feast Days. And you will notice that each of the High Holy Days falls on the weekends making it possible for every one to keep them with out conflict from work. The only exception will be the Day of Atonement which comes on the Tuesday Sept 10.

Burundi Final Report

July 22, 2019

Today was day one of five in our classroom. Topics of discussion were Sabbatical & Jubilee Years and Festivals of YHVH. Time teaching today was about 51/2 hours long and boy can I feel it in my back and feet. My purpose was simple and that was to not have people falling asleep during the teachings. I think it worked because aside from a couple of people the class was awake the whole time. Of course I gave them a break because that is too long to go without getting up. Anyway, it went great. Not a lot of questions today on the topics and I am pretty sure they have or at least most of them have heard most of it before although when I questioned them at the beginning, like always, only a couple put their hands up to answer. I really and hoping and praying the YHVH open their hearts to this message and take it to heart. After all these are supposed to be his best teachers to help spread this message around. We shall see.

Tomorrow I will be instructing on Tithing and Fear of YHVH. The subjects were picked by Telesphore and his elders as to the best subjects to speak on during this week, to see how it would work. More coming tomorrow.

What a contrast between yesterday’s teachings in which I was walking through mud to deliver and today when I t felt like almost all the words were flowing out of me. I do not think it was the topics on which I spoke on, except to say that The Fear of YHVH has so much content to speak on it makes it pretty hard to mess it up. Today it seems that the Pastors were finally loosening up and asking more questions as well. There are still a couple of people who sit there with their eyes shut most of the time, but to be honest I have no idea how far some of them have to come to sit in on this week of teachings.

Many Pastors are genuinely concerned that they we will know enough to prepare themselves or their flocks. Others spoke on the concern that their churches do not resemble the temple. That one kind of took me by surprise and when I ask why they would want to, they said well I mentioned the Menorah, so they assumed that they needed to have it in their humble churches. For many of the Pastors I can see such a hunger here and desire to learn as much as possible, which of course is a very good sign, but as I mentioned that it has to come in stages as we are tested on the knowledge that we have and are given, we will be given more. Obedience to YHVH is the key to progress.

Today as you can guess was a wonderful day. After yesterdays session I was afraid I would not have the strength to teach again today. It is amazing how much 5 hours of teaching can take out of a person. But trusting in YHVH today for my strength and guidance through the Ruach, it went very well and I was not as tired once completing the days instructions. Three more days of classes and I am praying that all the lessons will be translated by then so that we can hand them out on Friday and they can take the material back home with them and study through the subjects one at a time.

I had the Bishop’s wife come up to me and ask if my Bible had YHVH’s name in it and also hers has Jesus Christ and she did not want a Bible that had a false Messiah all over it. I showed her my Bible “The Scriptures” which has replaced all the names of YHVH and also Yeshua’s name as well. All of a sudden the whole class now wants new Bibles that have the correct names in them. Problem is I am not sure if I can find even a French version that is the same. Oh well I guess the search begins once again. Their problem is that all of their Bibles over here while in French or Kirundi, are printed by the Bible Society which we all know has nothing to do with following Torah and only has modern translations of the name and not the original naming. Lets see if I can find anything for them to you.

My Pastors are slowly coming to life! Each day I see a bit more life out of them as they begin to see their faith revealed in the scriptures. For many if not all of them, their life before learning about the Torah, was more difficult because they did not know how to deal with certain issues that were coming up. Their understanding was always and only related to just the NT and nothing about the OT was allowed. That was what they have been taught for years by visiting Missionaries. When you think about it, it’s a horrible situation to think that each time a new Pastor contacts them and I hear it is still happening even now, all they want to bring is the distorted message of jesus christ. At least now Telesphore is turning them away and telling them they are not interested because they follow the whole Bible and not just half.

I finished up teaching them on Salvation and Grace today, two of my favorite topics, and then we had out question period. Their questions are getting good which is always a challenge for me because I want to make sure I do not mislead anyone. Mostly today my questions were regarding Paul and his misunderstood quotes about being under the law. Thank YHVH that I now have that one well understood and it no longer presents any threat for me to respond to. I believe this idea of spending some quality time with these pastors is the best solution when it comes to teaching them. The idea of spending a couple of hours and then leaving them, never sat well and this week is proving to be a huge success. When I left them they were going to sit around for an hour or so and discuss the topics and if more questions come up I will deal with them tomorrow. I could see myself staying here for an extended period and being this teacher that people come to. You know maybe in our country where the roads are nice and paved and it does not take very long to reach a certain destination, traveling around to reach even one place can take quite a long time.

To be honest I am not sure this time if I will be returning to this amazing country. I have been invited to Uganda to teach with Severain, which is where he is from. They speak English there as well which would make teaching so much more fun and productive. It really is a challenge for me to have to stop every sentence just so it can be translated and I am sure it is no pleasure for those listening. I am just glad that I have someone like Severain and Edmond my translators who work just as hard as I to present this material. Speaking of Material, the translations are coming along nicely but it is a great deal of work. I understand that Telesphore is working with a University student here to make a translation program for the PC that will translate English into Kirundi. If that is the case we will be able to make more material available and at a fraction of the cost. I still have to talk with him about getting what he has. Now all we need it to make one for Swahili and we will be all set. I know that Goggle has one but I am not sure how accurate it is.

Well that is all for now and I will try if I remember to get a photo of Severain and myself for the next update and the last day, Friday I want to have a picture taken with my first real class. I think I would have made a great teacher!

Well only one more day and I got to admit it I am going to miss this very much. Not because I like the attention but because I feel useful and have a purpose teaching for the Kingdom and helping these Pastors in their journey to the Kingdom. Today started out very rough at least the before class I spent 20 minutes in disposed, if you know what I mean and I did not think I was going to teach. To be honest I would not have let them down, but it was a slow start. Once I got started today went better than ever. I had the class for the first time laughing and asking questions that were very thought out, I am so happy.

Yesterday looking at my list of topics that I had scheduled for today, I knew I had to make some changes. So after some time in prayer I went in another direction for today and spent the whole day discussing Baptisms in the Bible and How we know we have the Holy Spirit. Both very crucial if one wants to walk in obedience and understand His Word. I am right now very pleased with how this day has gone. 4 hours after starting, we all gathered outside to take a picture of my first official class here in Burundi. If and when YHVH returns me back here I would like to do this over again with a larger class and a bit more space. Having 6 people sitting at a table meant for 4 is a little crowed.  I would like to do a series if I come back and maybe go through some of the more complicated passages in scripture and not only explain them but prove them so they can do the same for themselves. That is always what I try to achieve, not a reliance on me but in understanding how to find the info and prove it for themselves. I believe the Ruach is a good start.

I have attached two pictures today. One of my class and the second is of Severain the one who needs the surgery. I can’t wait for tomorrow when we discuss Torah, one of my favorite topics. Until Then…

Well it is finished. We completed the set course and then some today. Everybody was in good spirits and asking lots of questions by the time we finished up. It was amazing to see when some questions were asked, instead of me answering them a few of the Pastors got up and answered them which I thought was great. Of course since I cannot understand them, Telesphore stood by me and translated and I am very happy to say, great results. Now their biggest wish aside from me returning is to have a Bible the has the names restored in them, YHVH and Yeshua. They think that if they could get me a Kirundi Bible I could just add the names. Of course this is hilarious because I cannot read Kirundi so changing anything would definitely be a challenge.

Today we covered the topics of Torah, some of Paul’s teachings, Kosher Laws including the vision of Peter that so many people cannot for some reason get past, and several other topics taking a full 4 hours to complete. It was very tiring work teaching for so many hours and my feet are glad that I am done. After we gave everyone some money to head back home and prepare for the Sabbath, the course came to a close. I have to say I am going to miss many of them. To be honest there was a few I am not sure they even wrote anything down and a few the slept most of the time. Of all the people I would have to say without prejudice that Telesphore and Eliane, his wife, were the most dedicated students there. I think they both filled a note book with notes and about ½ inch in size, and asked the most questions. I am more than glad to leave all this information in their hands because I know that they both love the work and are dedicated to seeing their country saved.

I am very happy with the work that has been done while I was here and I also know that all the material that was taught and some extra will be translated into Kirundi to be distributed around to the pastors in the country, at least the 240 churches that Telesphore watches over. After that I am sure with YHVH’s help it will spread and then to Rwanda and Kenya. We shall see.

As for me I am looking forward to heading home, I have much to take care of when I get there. So for now, this is James Relf signing off from Burundi, Africa.

Field of Dreams

I continue to get complaints about the selling of books.

Let me share with you what we have done with that money from the book sales and the donations that we receive. Last month we took all we had and sent James to Burundi Africa and we reported what he did two weeks ago and then just now for his final report. We have not had the funds to compensate James for the time he was away from his family. But we spent all we did have to get him there and to help Telesphore finance this teaching session.

Since then we have been saving what we had to purchase a large banner. But then we had another request from Burundi and we have cleaned out the bank account again and sent all the funds from donations and from the book sales to Telesphore to continue to do the work there.

This banner is what I had wanted to send to Burundi and then to take to India. Here is the front and back of it. Pauline was having some fun by showing me as a skinny guy in front of it so you can see just how large this is.

This is a 10 foot high by 20 foot long banner that I am going to have made in order to present the whole teaching so that people can understand it. This is what I want to take to India which is now on hold. And I want to take it to the Philippines and anywhere else we can teach this truth. The cost of this is going to be about $4000 US. Pauline has been working on this for the past couple of months. The front is now very different than what you see above.

Pauline has also been working on a manual showing each person how they can help with this work. Whether writting or talking or creating your own ministry. Pauline is working on a book to share with anyone who has the urge to do something but just does not know how to go about it. As you read in the comments above some are working on finding me a venue in Iran and Dubai. Not my first choice but they are working on it.

Jan too has been busy helping others teach the Sabbatical and Jubilee years in their respective ministry. As well as answering questions on MEWE our other social media site besides FaceBook.

This week I gave Jan the assignment to find me the English translations of the Muraba’at Scrolls which contain the land lease agreements according to the Sabbatical years. There are about 12 that I am seeking and I just received 172 Hebrew fragments of these documents. So this is very exciting as it also answers a question about one of the tombstones. This I hope to put along with the other 89 proofs of the Sabbatical and Jubilee years that we now have accumulated. Do you know of anyone else who is doing this research on your behalf?

Also now that we have broken the bank again this month an opportunity to advertise in the National Religious Broadcast group came about for 6 months on three different mediums for the total cost of $3500. I said yes to it and they agreed to monthly payments. I will be reaching the top radio and Tv broadcasters not just in America but around the world with our message and ads for our various books. This is for 6 months and leads right up to the National Convention in Nashville Tennessee this Feb.  And I am also trying to secure a place at this convention so we can with our banner show all 120 Jubilee cycles to these leaders in the christian community. This will cost us about $7000 when it is all said and done.

I have assigned the ad campaign to Pauline to get done by the end of August when we begin the ads. And there is more work she is going to puruse with the NRB on behalf of Sightedmoon.com. So please do keep her in your prayers as she tackles all of this. She may call on some others to help.

This week we have set aside $10500 of which we have no money right now to set aside, for our campaign with the NRB over the next 6 months. We are doing this in order to once again reach North America and the world with our message.

This week we also stopped the ad campaigns on Facebook for Britain and Ireland, as well as for New Zealand and Australia and Holland as those campaigns were slowing down. We have launched one in Newfoundland though and are getting good results thus far, after just a few days. But this too may be halted by the end of this week. Depending on the response.

Brother Aike in the Philippines continues to promote our work and takes it to the highest levels there. Here is a picture this week of him presenting our newest book to Atty. Jeremiah Belgica who has recently been appointed by the President of the Philippines.

I wanted to tell you this so you know what we are trying to do and how we are spending the money you send to us and that we have collected from the book sales. It is not for me. I work a full time job to pay my bills and have now put the NRB expenses on my card. If you can help or want to help then please step up to the plate. We have work to do and so little time to get it all done. We all work for Yehovah and if you understand the Jubilee message and what it means for the rest of the world then please do help us and work with us to get this job done.

40 Days of Repentance

I am sharing our teaching from 5849-026 in 2013 about the 40 days of Repentance. It is a good time to review this now as we once again begin our countdown to the day of Atonement.

We are sending this News Letter out a day early because of the New Moon being sighted. Today, August 8, 2013, the new moon was sighted in This evening marks the beginning of the 6th Biblical month. We are just a month away from Yom Teruah and the beginning of the fall feasts!

Chodesh Sameach!

We wanted to send this out early so that you can all begin to learn to repent during these 40 days of Repentance that lead us up to the Day of Atonement. May this understanding be a blessing to you.

I have come across many this past week who have been feeling the need to learn about this subject at this time.

For the past number of weeks we have been warning you of those things that are coming and are in fact taking shape right now and you can see them on the nightly news.

All of this was leading up to the war cycle when Israel, along with Judah would go into captivity together as Hosea 5 says.

Hos 5:5 And the pride of Israel testifies to his face. So Israel and Ephraim shall fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.

This week I received an email which questioned my statement about this 3rd Sabbatical cycle being one of Pestilence and famine. Where are they?

I must admit I expected them to begin in 2010 just as pestilence had come in each of the past 6 Jubilee cycles at the start of the third Sabbatical cycle. But we have had nothing to write home about; although swine flu did start in 2009 and then stopped after a few months. Bird flu and other flus are being carefully monitored but none of them have broken out, nor any of the other diseases in Saudi Arabia which is known as coronavirus Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

While we are looking at this, in The Prophecies of Abraham I also expected that Israel would be at war and then be occupied by UN troops in 2013. This was based on the King of the North coming and taking Lot captive during this same time in that Jubilee cycle. Although this year still has 7 months to go I fully expected it to have started by now so that it would also coincide with the false teaching of Daniels timeline and thereby deceive if possible even the elect.

So what have I to say about this?

When I look at the other Jubilee cycles and I see the Flood of Noah and the Destruction of Sodom and of Nimrod and how they match the year in which the Atonement is to take place, I can see that in the case of the flood it is off by one year. Actually just a couple of months.

What this tells me is that Yehovah waited as long as possible before sending the flood to give as many as possible the opportunity to repent and also join Noah on that Ark. Yehovah waited and waited and waited.

I have said that we expected to see pestilences and many deaths during this 3rd Sabbatical cycle based on the events that took place during this same time period in the past; The Spanish flu in which 40-100 Million died.

I had maybe stretched this understanding of the meaning of the third curse.

But the 4th curse of the sword also has this same pestilence and famine in it and is more specific about it.

Lev 26:23 And if you will not be reformed by Me by these things, but will still walk contrary to Me, 24 then I will walk contrary to you and will punish you seven times more for your sins. 25 And I will bring a sword on you that shall execute the vengeance of the covenant. And when you are gathered inside your cities, I will send the plague among you. And you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. 26 When I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight. And you shall eat and not be satisfied.

What I am saying was the third curse of pestilence and famine and earthquakes is based on the following.

Lev 26:21 And if you walk contrary to Me, and will not listen to Me, I will bring seven times more plagues on you according to your sins. 22 I will also send wild beasts among you, who shall bereave you. And I will destroy your cattle, and make you few. And your highways shall be deserted.

At first I was looking for mountain lion and bear attacks or shark or dog attacks or things like that. But they did not seem to fit the curse. Then I realized that fleas which spread disease could be the source here. When swine flu hit the airports in those cities affected where shut down and the highways were deserted as people tried to stay away from those who might be sick. But it did not last.

So right now I do not know what to say about this.

But I do know that the cycle of Terrorism was spot on from beginning to the end of the first Sabbatical cycle of Terror.

I also know that the second cycle of drought and severe weather was also spot on with each storm wreaking more havoc and destruction than the previous. Each new storm set new all time records for floods or heat temperatures and damages.

I also know that the earthquakes and volcanic action have increased dramatically and on this we have been also spot on.

In Lev 26:21 it does not say famine or Earthquakes though so how did I draw this conclusion?

In the bible I had noticed that a great deal of the time that Pestilences were mention along with famines. They seemed to go hand in hand.

And then I saw what Yehshua said.
Mat 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in different places.

He placed all three at the same time and it was on this basis that I called this third Sabbatical cycle the one of pestilence and famine and earthquakes.

If we again look at the third curse in Lev 26 then all we can gather is that wild beast will be here at this time. I have no recorded historical records to draw from. So I have stated something which I should not have said for this third cycle and spoke out of turn.

So the terrorism we got right, the severe weather we got right, the earthquakes we got right,….. we may have spoken to soon about the pestilence and famine. But they are told to be coming in the 4th Sabbatical cycle along with the sword.

In the Prophecies of Abraham we are shown how Ishmael the source of the coming conflict was born in the middle of that Jubilee cycle in the middle of the 4th Sabbatical cycle. When we compared that to the time when Israel fell and went into captivity it too was the 4th Sabbatical cycle.

The 70 Shabua of Daniel also show you that the covenant made with many ends in the middle of the current Jubilee cycle which is the 4th one of the sword. Daniels 70 weeks also shows you that this is the exact time that Israel, all 12 tribes will be so utterly defeated that there will be hardly any trace they existed there.

In the Prophecy of the law of Niddah we also learn that those who are bleeding out like a women’s filthy rag are our young men in uniform and each time we have lost a war this prophecy has been correct in the timing. And it too predicts that we will loose this next war in this next Sabbatical cycle, the 4th one.

The 2300 days of hell and Joseph’s 7 Years of Plenty and 7 years of Famine also show us that in the 4th Sabbatical cycle Israel is removed from the world scene and the Babylonian super power will have its way with us.

Some may want to use this fact that I have this third Sabbatical Cycle not 100% correct and try to use it to discredit those things coming next in the 4th Sabbatical Cycle. You are free to believe them or you can check out what we are saying and then weigh the evidence. I am sure you will agree with what I show you on them even though I may have this third Sabbatical cycle not 100% right.

Or as I said about Noah and the flood, Yehovah is waiting as long as possible for as many as possible to hear this message and to begin to keep the Sabbatical and Jubilee years. He is after all using me to tell the world this. Me with no money or help and with no means of getting this message out there except we have our two books and a third one coming and we have only now begun to get the TV series going. So by waiting, Yehovah I think, is giving us more time to get this message out there just as He gave Noah as much time as He could give him before sending the flood.

On August 8th of 2013 we now begin the 6th month which Judah calls the month of Elul and the start of the traditional 40 days of repentance.

The 6th month of Elul is a time of repentance in preparation for the High Holidays of Yom Teruah The Feast of Trumets and Yom Kippur The Day of Atonement. Tradition teaches that the month of Elul is a particularly propitious time for repentance. Elul is seen as a time to search one’s heart and draw close to God in preparation for the coming Day of Judgment. This mood of repentance builds through the month of Elul to the period of Selichot, to Yom Teruah, and finally to Yom Kippur.

The name of the month (spelled Alef-Lamed-Vay-Lamed) is said to be an acronym of “Ani l’dodi v’dodi li,” “I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine,” a quote from Song of Songs 6:3, where the Beloved is Yehovah and the “I” is the all twelve Tribes of Israel. In Aramaic (the vernacular of the Jewish people at the time that the month names were adopted), the word “Elul” means “search,” which is appropriate, because this is a time of year when we search our hearts.

According to tradition, the month of Elul is the time that Moses spent on Mount Sinai preparing the second set of tablets after the incident of the golden calf (Ex. 32; 34:27-28). He ascended on Rosh Chodesh Elul and descended on the 10th of Tishri, at the end of Yom Kippur, when repentance was complete. Other sources say that Elul is the beginning of a period of 40 days that Moses prayed for G-d to forgive the people after the Golden Calf incident, after which the commandment to prepare the second set of tablets was given.
Customs of Elul

During the month of Elul, from the second day of Elul to the 28th day, the shofar is blown after morning services every weekday. The shofar is not blown on Shabbat. It is also not blown on the day before Yom Teruah to make a clear distinction between the rabbinical rule of blowing the shofar in Elul and the biblical mitzvah to blow the shofar on Yom teruah.

Rambam explained the custom of blowing shofar as a wake-up call to sleepers, designed to rouse us from our complacency. It is a call to repentance. The blast of the shofar is a very piercing sound when done properly.

Elul is also a time to begin the process of asking forgiveness for wrongs done to other people and the time to forgive those seeking it from you. According to Jewish tradition, Yehovah cannot forgive us for sins committed against another person until we have first obtained forgiveness from the person we have wronged. This is not as easy a task as you might think, if you have never done it. This process of seeking forgiveness continues through the Days of Awe.

The Days of Awe are theTen days from Yom Teruah to Yom Kippur, a time for deep introspection and considering the sins of the previous year.
Many people visit cemeteries at this time, because the awe-inspiring nature of this time makes us think about life and death and our own mortality. Again these are the traditions that Judah has developed during this time.

It is also customary to recite Psalm 27 each day from the New Moon of the 6th month until Sukkot in the 7th Month.

Psa 27:1 A Psalm of David. Jehovah is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked, my enemies and my foes, came on me to eat my flesh, they stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army should camp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this I am trusting. 4 One thing I have desired from Jehovah, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of Jehovah, and to pray in His temple. 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His shelter, in the secrecy of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me up on a rock. 6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies, my encirclers; and I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle. I will sing; yea, I will sing praises to Jehovah. 7 Hear, O Jehovah, when I cry with my voice; and have mercy on me, and answer me. 8 My heart says to You, Seek my face; Your face, O Jehovah, I will seek; 9 Hide not Your face from me. Turn not Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then Jehovah will take me up. 11 Teach me Your way, O Jehovah, and lead me in a plain path, because of my enemies. 12 Deliver me not over to the will of my enemies; for false witnesses have risen up against me, and he that breathes out cruelty. 13 I would have fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of Jehovah in the land of the living. 14 Hope in Jehovah; be of good courage, and He shall make your heart strong; yea, hope in Jehovah.

Selichot

As the month of Elul draws to a close, the mood of repentance becomes more urgent. Prayers for forgiveness called selichot (properly pronounced “s’lee-KHOHT,” but often pronounced “SLI-khus”) are added to the daily cycle of religious services. Selichot are recited in the early morning, before normal daily shacharit service. They add about 45 minutes to the regular daily service.
Selichot are recited from the Sunday before Yom Teruah unitl Yom. If Rosh Hashanah begins on a Monday or Tuesday, selichot begins on the Sunday of the week before Rosh Hashanah, to make sure that there are at least 3 days of Selichot. The first selichot service of the holiday season is usually a large community service, held around midnight on Motzaei Shabbat (the night after the sabbath ends; that is, after nightfall on Saturday) . The entire community, including men, women and older children, attend the service, and the rabbi gives a sermon. The remaining selichot services are normally only attended by those who ordinarily attend daily shacharit services in synagogue.

A fundamental part of the selichot service is the repeated recitation of the “Thirteen Attributes,” a list of Yehovah’s thirteen attributes of mercy that were revealed to Moses after the sin of the golden calf (Ex 34:6-7):

Yehovah God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the sons, and on the sons of sons, to the third and to the fourth generation.

Yehovah [1], Yehovah [2], God [3], merciful [4], and gracious [5], long-suffering [6], abundant in goodness [7] and truth [8], keeping mercy unto the thousandth generation [9], forgiving iniquity [10] and transgression [11] and sin [12], who cleanses [13].

Why is “Yehovah” listed twice as an attribute? And why are three of these “attributes” Names of God? Different names of God connote different characteristics of God. The four-letter Name of God (rendered here as “YHVH”) is the Name used when God is exhibiting characteristics of mercy, and the Talmud explains that this dual usage indicates that God is merciful before a person sins, but is also merciful after a person sins. The third attribute is a different Name of God that is used when God acts in His capacity as the almighty ruler of nature and the universe.

Consider this if you will. In the year 2033 Satan is to be locked away. The Ten Years before this time is also known as the Days of Awe and they begin in the year 2024. 30 Years before this would bring you to 1994. That is the year I left the Worldwide Church of God and began my own in depth studies, which have continued up until today.

Soul searching in the Selichot – Ask the Rabbi

Q. What are the origins of the Selichot (penitential prayers) that are recited in the lead up to Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur?

A. There were times when the approach of the day of judgment, proclaimed with the shofar each weekday of Ellul and on Rosh HaShanah, sent shivers through Jewish hearts. Fearful lest they might not repent in time or even, God forbid, add further sins to those that had accumulated during the year, some would even observe a “fast of words” and hardly speak during Ellul.
Into this pattern the prayers for forgiveness, Selichot, fitted so naturally that had they not existed it would have been necessary to invent them. SM Lehrman wrote, “One can still visualise the crowded houses of worship with men, women and children; and in one’s ears there still reverberate the sobs and groans of a prayerful congregation swayed by the heart-felt cry of ‘Do not cast us away when old age creeps in upon us; do not abandon us when our strength is spent’.”

The word Selichot comes from selichah, “forgiveness”. The Psalmist said, ki im’cha haselichah, “for forgiveness is with Thee” (Psalm 130:4). Prayers for forgiveness were solemnly recited on fast-days in time of drought (Mishnah Ta’anit, chap. 2). Eventually they formed part of the service on all public fast days and days of intercession. They reflected the theology that suffering must have been caused by sin, and therefore repentance, confession and prayer for pardon would surely secure God’s favour and avert the evil decree.

The best known Selichot service is associated with the end of Ellul (amongst Sephardim, from Rosh Chodesh) and the beginning of Tishri. It has won its way into Jewish hearts and yet, like a number of the other specially popular occasions in the calendar, does not have a very ancient lineage. Simchat Torah and Tu BiShvat, Yahrzeit and Yizkor and even Bar-Mitzvah are other examples of observances that entered Judaism long after the Biblical period and yet are so well-entrenched that people assume they must surely stem from Sinai.

The Ten Days of Penitence were known from the time of the Talmud. The verse from Isaiah 55:6, “Seek ye the Lord while He may be found”, was applied to this time of the year when, said the Rabbis, God is especially accessible. In post-Talmudic times, the days of penitence were marked by changes and interpolations (such as zochrenu) in the liturgy. It also became customary to rise early on these days to supplicate Divine favour, and there was a long debate amongst the Geonim as to whether and when to fast during the ten days, even on Rosh HaShanah and Shabbat Shuvah.

Eventually the custom settled that instead of fasting on the two days of Rosh HaShanah and Shabbat Shuvah and Erev Yom Kippur, four days of fasting should precede Rosh HaShanah. Today we have abandoned these fasts but retained the prayers that went with them. Hence we commence Selichot four days before Rosh HaShanah. In practical terms this means that Selichot commence on the Sunday before Rosh HaShanah, but if the festival falls on Monday or Tuesday they commence from the Sunday of the previous week.

A further reason suggested for having four days of Selichot is that the Rosh HaShanah liturgy includes the Biblical phrase, “you shall observe a burnt offering”, and like an offering which needs to be scrutinised for defects for four days, so we need four days of self-searching before the day of judgment.

The Sephardi custom of commencing Selichot forty days before Yom Kippur (though some communities had the custom of commencing on 15th Ellul and not on Rosh Chodesh) reminds us that at the beginning of Ellul, after the episode of the Golden Calf, Moses ascended Mount Sinai again, after warning the people to behave properly in his absence, and came down on 10 Tishri with the message salachti, “I have forgiven”.

The Selichot reverberate with references to b’ashmoret haboker, “the beginning of dawn” and indeed much weight attaches to the custom of dawn or pre-dawn Selichot. It is not only that there were objections to uttering supplications at night. Psychologically there is a more subdued mood just before daybreak than is often seen in the more excited, almost theatre-like feeling of midnight Selichot.

This does not mean to say that Selichot at midnight, especially on the first Saturday night, are not permissible, and probably most who come to midnight Selichot would otherwise not attend or recite Selichot at all, but it is not always possible to combine a musical performance with the mood of introspection and penitence.

At first the Selichot service consisted of Biblical verses and short invocations of God’s mercy. Later the Thirteen Divine Attributes came to be constantly repeated, since the Talmud attached great importance to enunciating and striving to emulate them. Rabbi Yochanan, in a daring piece of imagery, even declared that God put on a tallit like a cantor and demonstrated to Moses how to recite the attributes, assuring him that if Israel had sinned but recited this passage they would secure forgiveness.
With the development of liturgical hymns, Piyyutim, the Selichot were embellished with poetical compositions which were distributed amongst the days when Selichot were said. These fall into four groups, tochachot (admonitions), akedot (reflections on the Binding of Isaac), techinnot (supplications) and bakkashot (petitions). Every day has its pizmon, a composition with a refrain; the name derives from the same Greek root as the word Psalm.

Like most Piyyutim, these tend to be intricate interweavings of phrases and ideas from the Bible, Talmud and Midrash. Their literary structure and ideological ambience are, however, of little interest to the average worshipper. What moves most people is not the intellectual as much as the emotional content of the service. And in terms of the feelings aroused by the time of year, the mood of the moment, the melodies and refrains, and even the fact that Selichot probably create more genuine piety than any of our other prayers, it must be said that this is truly one of our most successful liturgical experiences.

There is a custom to recite ten chapters of Tehillim each day during the month of Elul after the morning Shaharit service. After talking to Rico Cortes about this amazing subject, he shared with me the psalms to be read each day.

While the whole Messianic world argues about how to pronounce the Name, Calendars, One Law or two laws, one house or two house. Our Jewish Brothers are at the proper time praying as One Nation, One People, One Heart, One Voice. It is Sad, that we the people who believe in Yeshua, can not agree on anything but the ones that do not recognize Yeshua as Messiah know how to pray to the father in Unity. One last point.

I have been keeping the Feasts since 1982 and this Hebraic way since 2005. Without exception during the time leading up to Sukkot each year have been trials and tribulations that have happened to me and to those I know going to the Feast. We lose our jobs or we have the car break down the day before we are to go. Something unforeseen happens and you have to make that awful choice of do you stay and not go to the Feast or do you say damn the torpedo’s and go anyway.

I have been threatened to be fired and people get all heated up about my going. I have left expecting to the divorced when I get back or all my things tossed out of the house. These are the days of trials, which are symbolic of the years before the tribulation when you will be sorely tried.

Sometimes all you can do is throw your hands in the air and let Yehovah know you are sorry for your sins and you are going to keep the Holy Days no matter what.

We who understand the Sabbatical and Jubilee cycles know how little time is left. We know that in 2020 the worse disasters we could ever imagine will be upon us. We are told to ENDURE to the end. It means you put up with a great deal that you do not like. Brethren know and understand the meaning of these days and endure until He comes.

Welcome to Wisdom in Torah. This little booklet contains the Selichot prayers for our time of Repentance during the month of Elul, starting August, to the day of Yom Kippur. On Wisdom in Torah website I will be doing the opening prayers by only using the psalms. Then I will read from the Selichot Siddur.
For those who do not know, Selichot are prayers for forgiveness and Siddur is a prayer book.
The opening prayers are listed separately so you can pick which ones you want to start with. Then continue with the prayers in the Siddur.
I really pray that we can all put our hearts, minds, and souls into approaching our father who is our king. Remember, the principle is for us to be together praying to the father as one people, one nation, one mind, one heart, one voice and one soul.

Learning the Protocol of the King
The Four Steps of Repentance
Teshuvah (Return or Repentance) is a generous gift from G-d, which allows us to erase our improper actions through a four-step process (see below).
The Torah tells us that no matter how far we stray or how many times we sin, G-d will wait for us to return to him through Teshuvah.
There are four basic parts to Teshuvah:
1. Leaving the Sin 2. Regret
3. Confession Before G-d
4. Acceptance for the Future
1. Leaving the Sin
Leaving the sin consists of stopping the commission of the sinful act. One cannot do Teshuvah if one continues to do the sin, even if he or she were to perform the next three steps perfectly.
2. Regret
Regret consists in sincerely regretting one’s wrong action. One must be genuinely ashamed and embarrassed over one’s sins.
3. Confession Before G-d
Acceptance for the future consists of resolving in one’s heart never to commit the sin ever again.
4. Acceptance for the Future
Confession before G-d consists of an oral confession spoken out loud, in which one formulates in words the commitments and attitudes one has reached in his or her heart. One should say, “I have sinned, I have done such and such; I deeply regret my actions, and I declare before G-d, Who knows my innermost thoughts, that I will never do this sin again.”
What YHVH is really looking for is the sincerity of the effort that a person puts into their Teshuvah!

True – the God of the universe is our King; the Rock of Jacob is the Shield of our salvation. From generation to generation He endures and His Name endures and His throne is well established; His sovereignty and faithfulness endure forever. His words are living and enduring, faithful and delightful forever and to all eternity; for our forefathers and for us, for our children and for our generations, and for all the generations of Your servant Israel’s offspring.

Daniel 9:3 So I set my face toward YHVH the Elohim to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.4 And I prayed to YHVH my Elohim, and made confession, and said, “O YHVH, great and awesome ?l, guarding the covenant and the kindness to those who love Him, and to those who guard His commands.5 “We have sinned and did crookedness, and did wrong and rebelled, to turn aside from Your commands and from Your right-rulings.6 “And we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your Name to our sovereigns, our heads, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.7 “O YHVH, to You is the righteousness, and to us the shame of face, as it is this day – to the men of Yehudah, to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim and all Yisra‘?l, those near and those far off in all the lands to which You have driven them, because of their trespass which they have trespassed against You.8 “O Master, to us is the shame of face, to our sovereigns, to our heads, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You.9 “To YHVH our Elohim are the compassions and forgivenesses, for we have rebelled against Him.10 “And we have not obeyed the voice of YHVH our Elohim, to walk in His Torah, which He set before us through His servants the prophets.11 “And all Yisra‘?l have transgressed Your Torah, and turned aside, so as not to obey Your voice. So the curse and the oath written in the Torah of Mosheh the servant of Elohim have been poured out on us, for we have sinned against Him.12 “And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our rulers who judged us, by bringing upon us great evil. For under all the heavens there has not been done like what was done to Yerushalayim.13 “As it is written in the Torah of Mosheh, all this evil has come upon us, and we have not entreated the face of YHVH our Elohim, to turn back from our crookednesses, and to study Your truth.14 “Hence YHVH has watched over the evil and has brought it upon us. For YHVH our Elohim is righteous in all the works which He has done, but we have not obeyed His voice.15 “And now, O YHVH our Elohim, who brought Your people out of the land of Mitsrayim with a strong hand, and made Yourself a Name, as it is this day – we have sinned, we have done wrong!16 “O YHVH, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your displeasure and Your wrath be turned away from Your city Yerushalayim, Your set-apart mountain. For, because of our sins, and because of the crookednesses of our fathers, Yerushalayim and Your people have become a reproach to all those around us.17 “And now, our Elohim, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the sake of YHVH cause Your face to shine on Your set-apart place, which is laid waste.18 “O my Elohim, incline Your ear and hear. Open Your eyes and see our wastes, and the city which is called by Your Name. For we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great compassions.19 “O YHVH, hear! O YHVH, forgive! O YHVH, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my Elohim, for Your city and Your people are called by Your Name.”

O Elohim, you know of my foolishness and my sins; all my transgressions are not concealed from you. When I think of the enormity of my wrongdoing, I feel like water that has been spilled and as if all my bones have come asunder; heed the sound of my supplications.
At times of anger recall your mercy for he who knocks at the gates of your compassion; who stands as supplicant servant asking for your forgiveness. My eyes opened before the night watches to tell of your greatness. I shall proclaim your might to the generation, Your power, to all who are yet to come.
Uncover my eyes so that I may see wonders from your Torah. (heart) They shall sing out your name those who yearn for the hidden end; return to their dwellings the exiles who are spread out in all the corners of the earth. O Yah, a nation from the depths called from an abundance of troubles: please do not turn them away empty-handed today from before you.
Their treachery and their iniquity erase, along with their abundant blatant sins, and if you will not act for their sake, act, my Rock, for your sake.
Erase their offense today and favor their speech like a gift: guide their heart to You, and let Your ear be attentive.
Turn to the tears on their faces and gather the straying flock: appoint for Yourself a shepherd, and tent in a goodly fashion to your sheep.

Toward You, Adonai, I have raised up my eyes; hear the sound of my pleas as befits Your great kindness. I have trusted in your Name and have spread out my palms; I have taken words and have come unto You. My sorrows have been overpowering and my groans have increased, for all of my sins have set before you. My delicate soul dissipates from grief; release from anxiety the soul of your servant. Remove my sin, O Elohim of my salvation; also my tears may you place in Your flask.
In times of anger, Your mercy may you recall and reconsider, and gladden and console the soul of your servant. Recall my poverty and my sadness, my bitterness from my earliest existence; until when, against me will You renew your witnesses?
My oppressors have humiliated me as have my enemies and my adversaries; please hear my statements when I approach in fear of you. The haughty people have set for me snares and traps, in them are trapped the legs of Your loved ones. They set traps for me and they testify falsely against me; strangers have engulfed me, O Rock-other than You. O Rock, reveal Your glory to a people who are led and helped and Your hidden good grant to your remnants.
Those oppressed under much pressure do not distance yourself from them; recall Abraham, Isaac and Yisrael, Your servants. O compassionate One, be a support to a people sated with bitter herbs; and act, please, for the sake of our forefathers. Shaddai, You have been powerful in all that you have done, for your are righteous and righteousness is your cloak. May You forgive my sin, for my hope is in You, my King; and set straight my path, my Elohim, to serve you. May you turn to my prayer and to my expression of song, for You are my hope and who will not testify about You? Toward you, Adonai, I have raised up my eyes; hear the sound of my please as befits Your great kindness.
Out Father, the merciful Father, save us for the sake of Your Name. Our Elohim, Elohim of our forefathers, save us for the sake of Your Name. When we are in distress we call on You; save us for the sake of your Name. Bestow upon us Your stirring Mercies, and save us for the sake of your Name. Be merciful to Your children who are returning to You, and who stand before You with trepidation, fearful of the time they will be called to judgment; it is for that reason that they come in distress. Recall compassion, on the Day of Judgment; do away with anger and wrath at the time You will judge those who fear You and those who are engrossed in Your Name they who are sitting in judgment. Bring near to me the year of the Redeemer and redeem me; upon restful waters, O Elohim, lead me. And recall for me the merit of the perfect man, place like a seal upon Your heart. If you were to keep an accounting of sins for me to create for me a burden, see, my Rock and my Redeemer, how can I carry them? I cannot carry them upon myself; rather, the evil of my actions may You carry, O Elohim be merciful on with us.
Psalm 130:1 A Song of degrees.
